2025 Porsche Taycan 4S: The Ultimate Electric Performance Sedan

Since its debut five years ago, the Porsche Taycan has been a standout in the electric vehicle (EV) world—not just for its sleek design, but for the thrilling driving experience it offers. It’s one of the rare electric cars that manages to blend top-tier performance with true driving enjoyment without compromising either.

Recently, we had the opportunity to test the 2025 Porsche Taycan 4S, and it quickly became clear why this model might be the most practical and exciting Taycan for everyday driving. While the 1019-horsepower Taycan Turbo GT (starting at $231,995) is undoubtedly a track beast, the 4S offers an incredible mix of performance and real-world usability at a much more accessible price point.

On paper, the Taycan 4S boasts 509 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque, which, with launch control activated, increases to 590 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. During our tests, this allowed the Taycan 4S to rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds—0.4 seconds faster than Porsche’s official claim and a full second quicker than the 2025 base Taycan. The 100 mph mark is reached in only 7.2 seconds, showcasing the car’s ability to maintain blistering acceleration at higher speeds.

Unlike many other electric vehicles, the Taycan 4S doesn’t suffer from performance drop-offs at higher speeds. Thanks to its two-speed gearbox for the rear motor, the Taycan 4S delivers consistent power even at triple-digit speeds. In our quarter-mile test, it completed the distance in 11.2 seconds, hitting 125 mph. Sure, it doesn’t match the brutal acceleration of the Lucid Air Sapphire (which hits 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds), but a 3-second 0-60 time is more than enough to get your heart racing.

Although the Taycan 4S doesn’t feature a one-pedal driving mode, Porsche’s approach to regenerative braking means that drivers are encouraged to glide for maximum efficiency and gently apply the brakes to slow down. While this may feel a bit disconnected in lighter deceleration situations, the car still puts up impressive braking stats—coming to a full stop from 70 mph in just 151 feet and from 100 mph in a fade-free 306 feet.

Another highlight of the 4S is its suspension system. Equipped with Porsche’s adaptive two-chamber air suspension and an optional Active Ride system, the car’s ride and handling balance is nothing short of impressive. On Michigan’s rough, uneven roads, the Taycan 4S handled bumps and turns with confidence, offering exceptional body control and feedback at all corners. Active Ride technology—priced at $7,140—is a must-have feature, offering quick and precise wheel movements to improve cornering performance and grip, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Our test car, finished in Ice Grey Metallic, also featured 21-inch wheels and a long list of performance upgrades that added to the $120,495 base price. These upgrades included the $3,260 Performance Package, which brought Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus, rear-axle steering, aluminum pedals, and the Sport Chrono package. With additional packages like the $6,900 Premium Package and various interior upgrades, the total price of our test car came to $154,685.

When it comes to range, the Taycan 4S impresses. With its upgraded 97 kWh Performance Battery Plus, it now delivers significantly more range than its predecessors. The EPA estimates 295 miles of range with the 21-inch wheels, and a more efficient 315 miles if you opt for the base 19-inch wheels. On our highway range test, the 4S equipped with the larger battery managed an impressive 330 miles on a single charge—surpassing the EPA's estimates and far outperforming the 2020 Taycan 4S.

Charging times have also improved. With a 320 kW peak charging rate, the Taycan 4S can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes—a full 4 minutes quicker than before. Thanks to a new 11.0 kW onboard charger, most owners will be able to fully charge their Taycan overnight using a 240-volt home charger.

Despite the Taycan 4S's many strengths, it’s not without its downsides. The backseat space is still cramped, making it less ideal for long trips with passengers. However, for those who prioritize a little more space, the Taycan Cross Turismo body style offers more rear seat headroom.

In conclusion, the 2025 Porsche Taycan 4S strikes a perfect balance between performance, range, and comfort. While its price is certainly on the higher side, the Taycan 4S offers a driving experience that is unmatched in the EV world. For those seeking an exhilarating, everyday electric performance car, this might just be the ultimate choice.
